Tennessee suspends all lane closures for Independence Day

June 28, 20220

The TDOT will temporarily reopen highways and lanes that were previously closed for repairs. It would reduce the traffic congestion on interstate and state highways for Independence Day.

The travel permit begins from Friday, July 1 at 6:00 am to Tuesday, July 5 at 6:00 am.

“With so many people hitting the road we want to do all we can to ensure they reach their destinations safely and without necessary delays,” TDOT Commissioner Butch Eley said. “We are doing so by suspending lane closures during this busy holiday travel time.”

Motorists will still experience some long-term lane closures at construction sites, the press release stated.

Also, drivers should be careful: speed limits will still apply in the repair zones.

Drivers exceeding the limit will be fined between $250 and $500. Particularly persistent violators of order in areas with workers face a subpoena and an increase in insurance premiums.
