Preparing for Roadcheck 2023: What truck drivers need to know

April 20, 20230

Tens of thousands of commercial vehicles inspections are carried out every year during the CVSA International Roadcheck blitz.

International Roadcheck 2023 is scheduled for May 16-18.

This year, Roadcheck will focus on anti-lock braking systems (ABS) and cargo safety.

ABS on a car prevents accidents by preventing the wheels from locking up or slipping, allowing the driver to maintain control while braking. During the inspections, officers will verify that the ignition-on ABS self-test has passed, and after that, the malfunction indicator light goes out.

How to prepare for Roadcheck 2023?

  • Ensure proper pressure and tread depth, detect damage or tire wear in a timely manner.
  • Check the entire braking system for performance, safety and compliance.
  • Pay attention to possible oil or coolant leaks.
  • Check that the electrical system is in order: the battery, alternator, wiring, connectors, indicators and signals must be in working order.
  • Check for possible damage or malfunctions to shock absorbents and other suspension components.
  • Make sure your vehicle’s load is properly secured to avoid road safety hazards.
