DOT improves driving conditions for young truckers with new law

May 23, 20230

A new House bill aims to increase participation in the pilot program for young truckers aged 18-20.

The DRIVE Safe Integrity Act will support new developments in the interstate trucking industry while advancing standards for safe driving. This law will be one of those that will help solve the problem of lack of truckers in the truck driving industry.

The fact is that in 49 states, as well as in the District of Columbia, 18-, 19- and 20-year-old drivers are allowed to receive a CDL and drive heavy vehicles within the state. However, federal regulations prohibit the same drivers from driving interstate vehicles. This created a problem with the supply chain, which is directly dependent on the saturation of the industry with drivers.

Legislators hope the bill will provide the trucking industry with the new talents, essential for filling the needs of its economy. But first, of course, you need to get a CDL from trusted experts.

The American Trucking Associations and the International Association of Catering Distributors welcomed the introduction of the legislation, which both organizations say is built on strong bipartisan support for the DRIVE Safety Act in the past few congresses and the inclusion of a safe driving pilot program in the infrastructure bill.
