Pennsylvania Turnpike toll hikes take effect this weekend

January 8, 20240

Effective January 7, 2024, fares for E-ZPass and Toll By Plate customers on the Pennsylvania Turnpike increased by 5%.

The Class 5 tractor-trailer toll for E-ZPass increases from $14.40 to $15.20 and for toll roads from $29.40 to $30.90.

“As in previous years, PTC is required to increase rates annually as part of its legislative mandate to provide PennDOT with additional funding for transit systems across the state, as mandated by Act 44 of 2007,” said PA Turnpike CEO Mark Compton.

“If previously these payments were $450 million a year, now they have been reduced to $50 million a year. However, our organization had to take out a loan to make these payments, which total nearly $8 billion.”

“We understand that our customers pay more when they choose to travel on the Pennsylvania Turnpike,” Compton said. “In turn, we are committed to providing a reliable, premium experience that allows our customers to reach their destination safely and on time.”

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC) is raising toll rates for the 16th year in a row, but hopes to reduce annual increases from 5% to 3% by 2028.
