Firm Sensitech noted in its annual report that the number of cargo thefts has increased significantly over the previous year. Moreover, the volume and value of stolen goods in the United States hit a five-year high.

Sensitech recorded 870 cases of cargo theft in the United States in 2020. The average value of stolen cargo was $ 166,854.

Thus, the volume of thefts increased by 23%, and the average value increased by 41% compared to 2019. Sensitech added that it was the highest rate in the last five years.

It also became known that 48% of all reported thefts over the past year occurred in California (20%), Texas (18%) and Florida (10%).

The trend of cargo theft increased in 2020 due to the pandemic.

Therefore, the objects of theft became primarily the products that were already shortage. That ensured quick liquidation and easy resale for the thieves.

The most stolen products were toilet paper, disinfectants, personal protective equipment, fans, and more.
