Record traffic on the roads ahead of Independence Day

June 29, 20230

Before the July 4 weekend, a new record for the number of traveling Americans is expected. 50.7 million people are expected to drive 50 miles or more across America this weekend.

This year’s forecast will beat the previous one, set in 2019 at 49 million car travelers. For analytics, the holiday weekend period from Friday, June 30th to Tuesday, July 4th is taken.

INRIX, a transport data and information provider, expects Friday, June 30th to be the busiest day on the roads during the Independence Day holiday weekend, with average travel times up nearly 30% over normal.

It is expected that in large metropolitan areas, there will be a lot of traffic jams. Drivers are advised to leave in the morning or after 18:00 to avoid the biggest holiday traffic jams.

“With record numbers of travelers expected this holiday weekend, drivers should brace for above-average delays on many destinations,” said Bob Pishue, transportation analyst at INRIX.

“Using traffic apps, local DOT alerts and 511 services is key to minimizing traffic issues during holiday travel this Independence Day.”
