Nevada to close an emergency truck escape ramp

January 31, 20240

The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) is advising truck drivers to exercise extra caution during the long-term closure of a truck off-ramp.

From January 28th to the beginning of March, the truck escape ramp on US 50 East in Carson City will be closed for maintenance.

The closed off-ramp is located near the Drive Golf Club, between the Lake Tahoe area and Carson City.

The nearest truck escape ramp is located near the junction of US 50 and US 395.

NDOT shared several tips for truck drivers using truck escape ramps:

– Regularly maintain your vehicle.

– Use designated brake check areas near mountain peaks and steep grades to ensure your equipment and vehicle are in proper working condition.

– Familiarize yourself with the road and grades and load your vehicle accordingly.

– On descents, control your truck using recommended gears and speeds to avoid overheating the brakes.

– Use the truck escape ramp if you have difficulty slowing down or experience brake problems.

– Enter the gravel bed in line with the ramp and as close to the center as possible.

– Do not attempt to drive out of the gravel layer on your own. Attempting to drive out can only lead to further damage to your vehicle.

– Do not wait in the vehicle while it is on the ramp.

– Contact NDOT after using the truck escape ramp in Nevada.
