Indiana Interstate highway reopens after long renovation

April 28, 20230

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announced that I-65 will reopen this weekend via the North Split interchange in downtown Indianapolis.

The opening is scheduled for May 1, 2023.

Maintenance crews will work throughout the weekend on the northbound lanes and then the southbound lanes to fully open I-65.

As part of the I-65 reopening process, drivers must wait for lane restrictions as crews set up sidewalk markings. With the new traffic, drivers can travel on I-65 through North Split in both directions.

The North Spilled construction project began in late 2020. The North Split Interchange has been closed since May 2021 and traffic has been diverted to I-465.

INDOT reminds drivers that under the new permanent configuration of the North Split Interchange, there will no longer be access to I-65 south via the Delaware/11th Street exit, and access to the Meridian/Pennsylvania Street exit will only be available via north I-65.
