Highway restrictions in Pennsylvania due to winter storm

The state has announced restrictions on some highways ahead of heavy snowfall that will make travel difficult.

Level 1 restrictions are in effect as of 3:00 a.m. Friday, January 19th along all of I-80 in Pennsylvania.

Tier 1 restrictions ban the following vehicles: Bobtail tractor trailers; rigs hauling empty or lightly loaded dry van trailers, open trailers or tank trailers; tractors towing unloaded or lightly loaded doubles; enclosed unloaded or lightly loaded cargo delivery trucks/box trucks; passenger vehicles towing trailers; recreational vehicles/motorhomes; school buses, commercial buses and motor coaches; and motorcycles.

Level 2 restrictions are in effect on the Pennsylvania Turnpike Northeast Extension (I-476) south of the Pocono interchange, all of I-78, all of Route 33, I-81 from Maryland to I-80, US 22 from I-78 in New Jersey.

Level 2 restrictions are scheduled for the Poconos and surrounding areas at 3 a.m. on Friday, January 19th.

These restrictions prohibit the following vehicles: commercial vehicles towing double loads without chains or alternative towing devices; and all loaded or unloaded school buses, commercial buses and coaches, regardless of chains or other traction devices.
