Bridge repairs on I-470 will affect vehicular traffic in Kansas

July 11, 20230

On July 10, the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) began repairing several bridges on I-470 in Topeka.

The eastbound and westbound highway will be reduced to one lane, and bridges across 29th Street, Fairlawn Road, Gage Boulevard and 37th Street are also being repaired.

Drivers should be prepared for traffic jams as speeds in the working area are reduced to 55 mph. According to a KDOT press release, entries and exits will remain open. Work will take place Monday through Friday and on Saturdays as needed during daylight hours.

Another repair of the I-470 bridges across 10th Street is expected to begin in August. Traffic information will be provided prior to commencement of works.

The project will cost $1.7 million and is expected to be completed in November, conditions permitting.

KDOT urges all truck drivers to be vigilant and obey warning signs when approaching a work area.
