Navistar recalls over 90,000 trucks due to ABS issues

June 5, 20230

Navistar Inc. recalls over 92,000 trucks due to ABS indicator problems. The indicator does not light up during an emergency stop.

This issue affects 100% of 2021-2024 vehicles included in the recall. Vehicles with ABS problems include the International LT series (45,931); MV (16,227); RH (4923); HX (2,498); HV (1259); Lone Star (704) battery powered eMV (117); and 1,158 commercial buses.

A total of 92,193 vehicles were recalled.

The ABS indicator light does not comply with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard, which requires it to remain on when a malfunction is present, including when the vehicle’s ignition switch is in the on (run) position and the vehicle is in motion.

If the lamp does not illuminate during braking that requires ABS, the driver of the vehicle may not be aware that there is a problem with the ABS system. This may increase the risk of a traffic accident.

The ECU blink code function interferes with the ABS indicator light signal transmitted over the controller LAN, causing the ABS indicator light to turn off. The ABS indicator light comes back on when the vehicle is stopped. The traction control and stability control indicator lamps remain on, which may alert the driver to a problem.

The solution is a software update that disables the light code function so that it does not interfere with the logic commands for the ABS lamp when there is a malfunction. Notice letters for users and dealers will be mailed on July 24th.

The NHTSA recall number for trucks and commercial buses is 23V-370.
