Drivers taking photos at the accident scene now get fines

January 22, 20220

Under the new law, drivers who photograph road accidents will get huge fines.

Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers signed a law banning drivers from using their phones within 500 feet of a car accident.

Officials hope the new law will save lives by discouraging lazy and distracted driving. The new offense is punishable by a maximum fine of $10000 and 100 to 200 hours of community service.

In addition, drivers can go to prison for nine months.

Officials hope the ban on videotaping of drivers will help prevent recurring accidents as drivers stop and slow down to take pictures at the scene.

“Have you noticed there are too many such things? Everyone should post their photos and videos. They should be first,” said Sergeant Mark Patterson of the La Crosse County Sheriff’s Office.

“These accidents can be avoided if people just pay attention to the road in front of them, and not stare around. It’s a matter of life and death,” State Representative Jesse James added.
