Winter storm Olive hits 22 states

The central part of the country was taken by the strongest snowstorm in 12 years. Driving in places is difficult due to snow drifts and ice.

Nearly 90000 Californians are left without power, and major highways from the southwest to the plains are being closed as worsening weather conditions are expected through the end of the week.

Areas from South Dakota to southern Minnesota and Wisconsin may be seen sludges, as rain and flurries.

Total rainfall is expected to exceed 3 feet in many areas of eastern South Dakota, southern Minnesota, and central Wisconsin.

Chicago, Illinois, Detroit, southern Michigan, eastern Iowa could be hit by ice storms with winds up to 50 mph.

At least 6 inches of snow is expected from South Dakota to northern and central Lower Michigan and the Upper Peninsula.

Wyoming has already closed all roads in the upstate, including I-80 until Friday.

Less snow is expected south of the New York highway and I-90 in Massachusetts and southern New England.

The combination of rain and snow made many roads slippery and dangerous to drive. Some roads may not be cleared until Friday.

The risk of getting stuck in a snow drift or losing direction in a snow blizzard exists even on open route.

Drivers are advised to plan their route before the end of the week.
