Virginia asked truck drivers to avoid road section of I-95

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is asking truck drivers to bypass I-95 this week if possible due to an interstate bridge project.

I-95 “Mega Work Zone” crews is working on two projects during the lane closure. The first project is a new I-95 bridge northbound at mile 132 between Fredericksburg and Stafford County, and the second is a transition to the new lanes of the bridge over the Rappahannock River.

The Virginia Department of Transportation is warning of severe traffic congestion on I-95 north from 5:00 pm Monday, December 5 to 4:30 am Wednesday, December 7 due to lane closures.

VDOT asks truckers to refrain from driving on this stretch of road and offers a detour.

Drivers heading north of Fredericksburg are advised to use Exit 104 Route 207 in Caroline County to use Route 301.

“Merging the work zone activities will reduce impact on the traveling drivers,” VDOT officials said. “This work zone brings the project one step closer to delivering more capacity to I-95 travelers, with these critical project milestones achieved.”
