Trucker went to jail for 25 years for watching movie on truck

The truck driver was sentenced to 25 years in prison for carelessness behind the wheel.

The accident happened in September 2019 on Interstate 64 in Franklin County, Kentucky.

According to experts, Jerry Elder was driving on I-64 and was watching a video on his smartphone, when suddenly his truck crashed into a jeep. As a result of the ludicrous incident, one passenger was killed, the other one was badly injured.

On August 13, 2021, the trucker was sentenced to 25 years in prison. He was charged with second-degree homicide by negligence, second-degree assault and causeless first-degree threat.

During the adjudgement, prosecutors recommended sentencing to 10 years in prison for homicide by negligence, 10 years in prison for each of the assault charges, and five years in prison for each of the causeless threat charges.

A driver must be in prison for minimum five years before gaining the right for parole.
