CloudTrucks surveyed 2,000 Americans to explore regional differences in views of the trucking industry.

CloudTrucks conducted its survey “How America Thinks and Talks About Trucks” using the third-party platform Pollfish. Respondents from all 50 states were included and analyzed by region: Northeast, Midwest, South and West.

The study revealed that:

  • Americans value and generally have positive views of truck drivers.
  • Americans in all regions are familiar with the trucking industry, and Southerners believe they have the best knowledge of trucking and truck drivers.
  • • Regional terminology for trucks varies, but “18-wheeler” is the most popular term for trucks across the country.
  • Across all regions, Americans say “truck drivers play a critical role in the economy” (80%) and sympathize with truckers because they “often” have to “face aggressive or unsafe behavior from other motorists” (43%).
  • Nearly a third (33%) said truck drivers are not paid adequately for their work.
  • Many respondents (35%) described drivers as hardworking, overworked and underpaid. About 32% of respondents also called drivers reliable and punctual.

The survey found that residents of the Northeast are quite knowledgeable about trucking. They consider New York to have the strictest trucking regulations, Texas was named the state with the highest concentration of trucking companies, and Ohio is considered a major trucking hub.
