HAZMAT transportation across Alabama interstate banned for a week
The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) has temporarily banned the transportation of hazardous materials on the Interstate through downtown Birmingham.
The restrictions are related to the holding of a major sporting event.
The Hazardous Substances Restriction will apply on I-59/20 off I-65 east of the EB Stephens Freeway (US 31).

According to the Alabama Trucking Association (ATA), dangerous goods will not be allowed on I-59/20 in downtown Birmingham from Thursday, July 7 through Sunday, July 17.
ALDOT will use digital and static banners to communicate the restrictions.
