Florida allocated $50 million for unscheduled infrastructure repairs

The US Department of Transportation announced $50 million in emergency assistance to help repair roads and bridges damaged by Hurricane Ian.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg assured that the allocated funds will help Florida repair infrastructure damaged by the disaster.

“This important step is only part of a larger federal commitment: as President Biden said, we will be with the people of Florida for as long as it takes to recover and rebuild stronger,” Buttigieg said.

Acting Federal Highway Administrator Stephanie Pollak said FHWA is working closely with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to repair the damage. The FDOT has also identified 20 emergency intersections that are in need of major repairs.

The hurricane hit southwest Florida in late September. Devastating storms and heavy rain washed out many roads, intersections and bridges in several regions of the state.
