Commercial trucks are prohibited from entering part of I-20 in Louisiana

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announced that commercial vehicles will be prohibited from passing through the I-20 construction zone in Bossier City beginning Dec. 21.

Drivers should use the I-220 main detour. Violators caught in an I-20 construction zone after 7:30 p.m. could be issued a ticket under an updated Louisiana law.

Digital no-trespass signs are posted at the I-220 interchange in Shreveport and Bossier City, as well as on- and off-ramps in the redevelopment area.

Previously, commercial drivers were strongly encouraged, but not prohibited, from entering the I-20 construction zone.

However, the current road configuration includes several narrow bridges that are difficult for large commercial vehicles to navigate, leading to traffic incidents and traffic jams.

“This change is also intended to ensure that essential reconstruction efforts continue to move forward, as incidents involving 18-wheelers may impact these efforts due to the nature of the cleanup and removal process,” the Louisiana Department of Transportation said.
