25 thousand infrastructure projects to be brought into action in the USA

November 26, 20220

A year ago, the Administration signed the infrastructure bill into law. The transportation industry was given $1,2 trillion, of which $110 billion was granted on improving roads, interstates and bridges.

The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act is almost entirely split across individual states. Approximately 90% of the funds were distributed among the states according to an already established formula that evenly distributed the entire grant.

It also includes fiscal parts for electric vehicle infrastructure to support drivers, hydro projects, upgraded internet services, environmental cleanup projects and public transportation, according to Commercial Carrier magazine.

The rest of the funding is meant for use in grants and various programs of the transport industry. This funding provides significant support to states in their 2022 budgeting efforts. The formulas established for distributing highway funds were apparently effective as they served as a very reliable starting point for nearly 25000 improvement projects. This data is supported by a review of US Treasury Department data from early 2022 through August 31.

And this is only in the first year of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, so the potential benefits of the grant seem broad. According to their website, the American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) is an agency that advocates for investment in infrastructure and policies that meet America’s demands for safety and efficiency.

Their chief economist, Alison Premo Black, was tasked with reviewing and collating the data for the aforementioned report. “The key takeaway from the Treasury data is that the bipartisan infrastructure law is working in its first year, as expected, and state transportation departments are budgeting their funds and projects are starting to progress,” she said. ARTBA Chair Paula Hammond, who is also Senior Vice President of WSP USA, is confident in the benefits and improvements that will come from the law.

According to ARTBA, in 18 states, voters approved 88% of proposed projects aimed at increasing investment in transportation.
