When temperatures drop to freezing, even the most experienced truckers find it hard to handle driving in the snow.

Poor visibility combined with reduced traction makes it difficult to drive a large vehicle. During snow squalls in the United States, large-scale accidents occur that claim lives of hundreds of drivers.

The Pennsylvania State Police published truck driver tips on how to survive if they get caught in a snowstorm:

  • Do not stand next to the vehicle if it is on the roadway or on the side of the road.
  •  Instead, find a safe place far away from the highway – a concrete fence, a building, or a large tree.
  • If there is no safe place outside the vehicle, stay inside with your seat belt fastened.
  • If possible, drive slowly behind other vehicles.

In order not to get into bad situation, it is recommended to check the weather forecast on the route as early as possible.
