Traffic alert system for New Jersey commercial vehicle drivers
This week, the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) brought out the introduction of a traffic alert system programmed to inform commercial vehicle drivers of impending traffic slowdowns and help them avoid accidents.
NJDOT declared the deployment of a commercial vehicle traffic alert system on Jan. 11.
Authorities point that the new system will give truckers cab traffic updates and deceleration warnings via Drivewyze PreClear software for 647 miles of New Jersey highways, including the New Jersey Turnpike, Garden State Parkway and the Atlantic City Expressway.
Drivers will be warned about traffic jams or slowdowns beforehand, two to three miles prior, that will allow them to slow down in time and avoid possible crashes.
“The capability to warn commercial drivers of unexpected traffic conditions will increase safety for everyone driving on New Jersey highways,” said NJDOT Commissioner Diane Gutierrez-Scaccetti. “ As drivers will be warned about traffic ahead, drivers of large commercial vehicles will have the extra time which they need to decelerate safely.”
“The New Jersey Truckers Association welcomes intentions to provide early safety warnings to commercial truck drivers through Drivewyze,” said Gail Toth of the New Jersey Truckers Association. “These intentions will help make our workplace – the roads – safer for everyone.”
