Navistar recalls 7 000 trucks due to engine defect

Navistar is recalling International’s trucks due to an issue that could lead to sudden engine shutdown.

According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) documents, the connecting rod wrist pin in recalled trucks can crack, causing in connecting rod failure. This, in turn, can cause the engine stop and lead to an accident.

Navistar will install new engine monitoring software that can warn the driver before an engine connecting rod failure, and will replace the connecting rods free of charge if needed.

The recall affects certain International HV 2018-2021, International HX 2018-2020, International LT and International RH 2018-2019 trucks.

The total number of trucks affected by the recall is 6,883. Navistar is expected to mail notifications to owners on November 14, 2022.
