FMCSA waives HOS rules for truck drivers of eight states

September 29, 20220

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) issued a declaration of emergency due to Hurricane Ian.

The eight states included in the regional emergency declaration are Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.

The declaration of emergency provides for an exemption from the requirements for maximum driving time for goods vehicles and maximum driving time for passenger-carrying vehicles. The waiver applies to truck drivers who transport emergency equipment, supplies, emergency personnel, and FEMA mobile homes or office-style homes to or from Florida.

The department has also removed weight and size requirements for any vehicle carrying fuel, emergency equipment, supplies, and agricultural products.

The state of emergency will remain in effect until the end of the emergency.
