Michigan State Police (MSP) is starting a massive initiative on enforcement traffic regulations this weekend.

The I-75 Stay Alive initiative begins Sunday, August 7th and runs through Saturday, August 13th. It aims to reduce accidents involving commercial vehicles.

Throughout the week, MSP will focus on enforcement regulations on I-75 from the Michigan/Ohio state line to the International Bridge at Sault Ste. Marie on the Upper Peninsula.

Officers say they will stop both passenger and commercial vehicles. However, special attention will be paid to violations of commercial traffic rules, such as distracted driving, failing to keep a distance, improper overtaking, speeding, lane misuse, etc.

“These compliance efforts are part of an initiative to improve road safety and reduce accidents,” said Capt. Richard Arnold, Commander, MSP Commercial Vehicle Compliance. “This coordinated review aims to raise awareness of dangerous driving behavior by providing high visibility on the I-75 freeway.”
