Truckers receive fake messages from Illinois DOT

July 15, 20210

There has been an increase in the number of mailouts as claimed from the Illinois Department of Transportation.

On Monday, the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office published the resort to drivers. It says messages are sent by frauds, not DOT.

Police say the frauds are sending SMS pretending to be IDOT in order to get people to send their personal details – social security numbers, driver’s license numbers and dates of birth.

“If you receive a text message from the Illinois Department of Transportation, please don`t follow the link or share your personal information with anyone. IDOT never asks for personal information or asks to download updates to a smartphone,” warns the sheriff’s office.

Also police are asking the public to warn friends and elderly family members so that they don`t fall into the trap of such schemes!
