In West Virginia, a man killed two truck drivers who were trying to help victims at the previous accident.

Around 7:20 a.m. on July 1, a truck and a car crashed on I-81 at the mile marker 19 near the rest area south of Spring Mills.

Several people stopped to help the accident victims. Among them there were two truckers – 53-year-old Adam T. Miller and 46-year-old Ashish P. Patel. As the two truckers approached the scene on foot, the southbound Nissan Pathfinder SUV driven by 47-year-old Jason Hooper lost control and hit Miller and Patel.

Both Miller and Patel died from their injuries.

Police believe the accident was caused by high speed and hydroplaning due to heavy rain.

Berkeley County Sheriff Nathan Harmon said, “Our thoughts and prayers go to the families of the pedestrians who are involved in an accident. Those truckers sacrificed their lives to help others. “

Due to the incident, traffic on I-81 in a southerly direction was stopped for several hours, resulting in traffic jams.

The double fatality crash is still under investigation.

Anyone with any information is asked to call either Lt. A. Burns or Cpl. D. Richie of the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, 304-267-7000.
