The validity of CDL and med cert will be extended through May

February 19, 20210

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) allows the states to extend the validity CDL and CLP through May 31. In addition, the period of the COVID-related hours of service waiver is extended too. The waiver period expires on 28 February.

It is reported that many truck drivers couldn’t renew their driving licenses and provide medical certificates to their states due to staffing issues at state driver licensing agencies.

The extended waiver no longer requires states to renew the CDLs and CLPs due for renewal since March 1, 2020. If the truck driver has a valid medical certificate or any medical document issued for a period of 90 days or longer (that expired on or after December 1, 2020), he can be exempted from medical exam and certification.
